To be able to play properly on a poker site Winholdem must be able to read all the information shown on your poker table. To be a winning poker player you must be able to use various pieces of information located at different areas on the table.

For example, if you are dealt a pair of tens. This hand will be played differently if there are 9 opponents sitting at the table, or just 1 other opponent. Knowing how many opponents are sitting at the table with you will improve your play, if you use that information, the more information you have and use, the better your play.

When using Winholdem, we start by pressing the green button, and hopefully the program locates a window whith a table you are sitting on. The table will more than likely have some, if not all of the following information:

  • number of players
  • player chipstacks
  • small blind/big blind amounts
  • call button location
  • if an oponent is still holding his cards
  • cards in your hand
  • cards on the board
  • many many more

Every site has similar information, but not all are shown the same way. One site the call button might be blue, and another site it might be yellow and in a different location.

A profile is a "MAP" that tells Winholdem to look in certain areas for certain information. If we are in New York City, and looking for a way to get to the Statue of Liberty, we would not use a map of Paris. It would not make sence.

Sometimes a city might add a few new roads, build a new Highway, or change the mane of a street. When it does, it is time to get a new "MAP". The city of montreal has been around for a long time, and since the beginning there were maps of Montreal. the map of Montreal printed in 1900 is very different from todays map of Montreal.

Winholdem will not work properly unless it has a perfect "MAP" of the poker table you are playing on.

A Full Tilt table with 6 chairs needs a different "MAP" to play on that the Full Tilt table with 9. Its not as easy as removing 3 chairs. The chairs are located in different places.

Party Poker uses 10 chairs, and so does Poker Stars. They are also not in the same position. But it is not just the chairs that are a problem, there is the fonts the sits use, the colors, the cards look different and might be a different size.

Try this:

Next time you are using Winholdem, click on view/scraper/show all boxes. Now if you look at your poker table, there should be a whole bunch of rectangles. Here is where Winholdem gets some of its information from. If you have the ability to change the size of the window, you will see the rectangles are not located in the areas where they are supposed to be.

Scraping is the term we use when we want to say "Winholdem is looking and comparing."

Imagine this;

You are working on a puzzle. Its a picture of a field, somewhere in the mountains, so its pretty much green grass and sky. Most of the puzzle is complete, but you still have 4 pieces to place to finish the puzzle.

  • a green piece
  • a blue piece
  • a green piece with 2 straight sides(corner piece)
  • a blue piece with 2 straight sides(corner piece)

Scanning the puzzle with our eyes, and knowing what pieces we have left we realize that the green corner piece, must be the corner piece on the bottom, and the blue corner piece goes at the top. The next green piece goes in the grass somewhere, and the blue must be for the sky.

Scraping is the same as scanning the puzzle with our eyes. Winholdem "SCANS" or "SCRAPES" the window looking for recognizable "PIECES" that it can use. Some "PIECES" will fit in a few different areas. The "PIECE" called the "King of Spades," should fit on any one of the 5 places on the board, where the common cards are located. They should all be in the exact same size. Same gores for the "PIECE" called the dealer button, and so on.

If ANYTHING does not match up, and the "PIECE" does not fit, the puzzle will not work. IT TAKES A LOT OF PIECES FOR A PROFILE TO WORK CORRECTLY!

The profile is a document that is located inside your Winholdem folder.
